We wish to reassure our Clients that James Adcock Furniture & Kitchens are taking the Coronavirus very seriously and we are continuing with all our projects in a safe manner following the guidelines set out by the Government.

Taking care of our staff and clients are our priority during these extraordinary times and we plan to do this whilst moving forward with our business and the work we have planned over the coming weeks/months.

To date none of our staff have shown symptoms of the virus, but should this change we will keep our clients informed.

To ensure our staff and clients stay as safe as possible we are taking the following precautionary measures:

  • Any member of staff with a cough and/or temperature will self-isolate.
  • Staff that have had contact with anyone with the Coronavirus will self-isolate.
  • Our staff are carrying out regular cleaning to keep our showrooms and shared workspaces as clean as possible.
  • Staff that will be visiting your homes will keep themselves and their tools as clean as possible. We have instructed staff to wash/sanitise their hands before entering clients homes and regularly throughout the day.
  • Prior to any visit to clients homes, for site visits or fitting work, we will contact the client to reassure that the person(s) visiting are Coronavirus symptom free and would ask that clients indicate as this time whether they also symptom free or have been in contact with someone with the virus.
  • Should any staff member have symptoms and therefore are self isolating, we will aim to send another member of staff to carry out the site visit or fitting work on their behalf on schedule, however where this is not possible we will suggest an alternative date to our mutual convenience.
  • Should the client need to self-isolate, then the site visit or fitting date will be postponed until a future mutually convenient date.

As a company we wish to reassure all our Clients that whilst keeping our staff and clients safe, we will ensure that all projects are completed within the agreed timescales, however if they are delayed, please rest assured that your project will be completed as soon as safely possible.

We thank you for your patience at this time.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any queries.

Kitchen worktops need to be both practical and complementary to the design of your kitchen and your budget. James Adcock offer
a huge range of worktops from top of the range Corian to all stones and wood, as well as everything else you may need.

Dekton – This is the only stone worktop in the market with a heatproof and stain-proof guarantee. It is a highly compressed manmade stone available in a range of thicknesses.

Corian – Like Dekton, Corian is manmade; bonding stone with
a high level of resin, this means it can be moulded to create sinks and upstands with no seams. It comes in a range of colours.

Quartz Composite – Market leading brands such as Silestone, Unistone and Caesarstone offer a wide range of colours for this very popular manmade stone. It comes in slabs like granite and is stain resistant.

Granite & Marble – Natural stones from around the world with all the changes and variety you would expect from a natural product and a large number of colours. Granite is a harder stone than marble.

Solid Surface – A hybrid of laminate and manmade stone, Solid Surface worktops have a acrylic surface usually 8mm thick with a particle board core. Cheaper than the stone worktops but offering a similar looking nish.

Wood – Available in a wide variety of colours and nishes, wooden worktops add character and, offer the acoustic ability
to soak up noise in a room where you may have lots of solid surfaces. A cost effective solution and often used in combination with stone.

Laminate – The most famous name of this type is Formica.
A particle board base is topped with a thin layer of limited heat and stain resistant plastic; Available in a wide variety of colours; Cost effective way of tting a worktop when budgets are tight.

Bespoke Worktops – Cement, stainless steel and slate worktops can all be sourced. Just let us know what you’d like during your design consultation.

Following our expert Kitchen Designers first meeting with you at your home we will start with a blank piece of paper at the drawing board and map out your kitchen the traditional way. This plan will then be used to generate a virtual kitchen design based on your discussions with us.

Using our Computer Aided Design (CAD) package we are able to put together a design sheet featuring detailed oor plans, 3D views, birds eye views and photo realistic pictures to help you visualise the nal look of your kitchen… allowing you to see your kitchen before it is even built.

This information is presented to you at our second meeting (normally in our Stratford on Avon showroom about 2 weeks after our first visit.) We explain the design and go through the plan, the CADs and the costs with you. Our initial meeting has often prompted further thoughts on your part so together we have a thorough discussion and amend the design to ensure your new kitchen is all you hope for.

We craft all of our furniture ourselves and have done so for nearly 40 years using traditional techniques and, with design at its heart showcasing the beauty of wood.

Acorns to Oak Trees

We’d have to go back nearly 40 years to discover the acorn from which James Adcock Furniture & Kitchens has grown.

James’s father David set up Ashworth’s Country Workshop, a cabinet makers crafting traditional pine furniture using time honoured techniques. Quickly it became a family concern with Mum Sue as chief cook, bottle washer and delivery woman as well as designer of kitchens. Growing up around the family business perhaps it was always inevitable one of their sons would get the furniture bug. It was James who realised, one month into his job as a stockbroker in the Square Mile his future was in dovetail joints.

David began to make furniture outside the UK as costs of wood and labour spiralled. In Romania he found amazing, sensitively managed forests and people happy to learn how to craft furniture using our traditional techniques including dovetail and mortice & tenon joints.

When James and David set up business in 1999 it was obvious to both of them the furniture should be made in Romania and that Sue should design the kitchens. She was relieved and James was happy to do the deliveries!

In the Carpathian Alps Romania they bought a dairy farm, converted it to a workshop with state of the art tools; bought their own kiln to dry the wood and employed Doina and Cristi Stania whom David met in his rst forays into Romania. Doina and Cristi now have 40 skilled craftsmen & women working for us. James visits every month. Having our own workshop means we can control the quality and have the exibility to offer bespoke kitchens and furniture.

The trees we use have been individually chosen and there is a no clear felling policy. These logs are often pulled out by horse to minimise ecological damage. We want our kitchens and furniture to be as eco-friendly as it can be. In crafting the furniture we end up with lots of off cuts and saw dust. None of it is wasted. The off cuts heat our workshop and are now available in our stores for your home too; the sawdust keeps the local tomato plants warm. Keeping it green we have recently designed and built solar-powered kilns to dry our wood.

Once the kitchens and furniture have been crafted it is hand finished to our customer’s requirements or primed ready for hand painting and then carefully bubble wrapped awaiting shipment to us in the Cotswolds. We are proud of our British Heritage and our Romanian craft.

David and Sue, in the meantime, have decided to retire and spend their well earned rest sailing, playing tennis and enjoying the next generation already obsessed with wood, glue and tools. Sue hasn’t entirely escaped just yet as she’s still on hand for advice on kitchen design.

James Adcock Furniture & Kitchens is a family business based in the Cotswolds. With over 50 years experience in cabinet making & kitchen design, we are passionate about making warm and hearty furniture.

“We want the furniture we craft to become a well loved feature in your home, lasting a lifetime. We use wood with lots of character to ensure each piece has lots of interesting grain and is as unique the trees it has been crafted from.”

We can also come to you. We will visit you to design your kitchen, bedroom, study or bookcase with your needs in mind. We also have a wonderfully talented fitting team. Perfectionists who love the challenge of a wonky wall, they craft your dream design into a reality.

We make our gorgeous characterful oak & pine furniture in Our Workshop in Romania. Why there? We are surrounded by beautiful forests. Felling is strictly licensed. The trees are chosen individually and drawn out by horses to minimise ecological impact.

James Adcock Furniture & Kitchens are Cabinet Makers. Our Craftsmen hand build the furniture, using wood with interesting grain, knots and medullary rays and, time honoured methods such as dovetail & mortice and tenon joints.

As we make the furniture we are able to offer a Bespoke service. We can adjust the size on our stock items or design something exclusively for you to fit those awkward spaces in your home. Our friends make our Sofas and Dining Chairs. We’ve worked with them for a number of years and know their chairs meet the high standards and craftmanship we expect from our own furniture.
